Industrial Placement Opportunity – Fixed Income, Quantitative Support

 

The role provides support for a global team of four people responsible for developing quantitative tools to support the fixed income team globally and for our developing our own quantitative funds. The role will cover a mix of regular reporting tasks and ad-hoc project work and would suit a student looking for a future career in Fixed Income fund management.

 

Main Duties

·         Assisting on monthly and quarterly reporting on trading volumes, analyst performance and fixed income performance attribution

·         Historical data analysis using economic, performance and risk based time series

·         Automating tasks using Excel, VBA and SQL

·         Data manipulation for the presentations

·         Ad-hoc analyses for the portfolio management and capabilities teams

·         Assisting other members of the Quantitative Support team on any task, as and when required.

 

By the end of the Industrial Placement the candidate should expect to have a good understanding of Fixed Income fund management and VBA and SQL programming.

 

The placements will commence around June/July 2009 for 6 to 14 months.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary is competitive, and there is a bonus at the end of the placement depending on performance.

You will be entitled to 25 days holiday per year.

 

Also, as part of your work placement we encourage you to study for and gain the Investment Administration Qualification (IAQ). The IAQ is an industry recognised qualification that provides individuals with an overview of the financial services industry and its regulation.

 

Candidates' requirements:

·         To be eligible for an Industrial placement, candidates must be full time students and be able to provide us with a letter of support from their University as the placement must be part of their studies

·         Strong educational background (with a minimum of 300 UCAS points or Equivalent) in a mathematical, scientific or engineering subject

·         Be numerate with a good ability in Maths and articulate and have a minimum of grade B GCSE in English & Maths or similar

·         Strong interest in financial services/fixed income and willingness to learn about the business

·         Plenty of initiative and enthusiasm

·         Ability to deal successfully with a wide variety of people

·         Ability to work cooperatively under pressure and to meet deadlines

·         Have good attention to details

·         Ability to present complex ideas simply

·         Be well organised and able to prioritise own workload

·         Flexible and able to work on a wide variety of tasks

·         Self starter, willing to work with minimal supervision

·         Good communicator, orally and in writing

·         Proficiency in programming and SQL an advantage

·         IT literate and proficient in Word and Excel

·         Be committed to the Company for the length of the placement.
